What exactly is Vitamin B12? And what does it do for our body? Without getting too scientific, Vitamin B12 is a nutrient that is found in food. You can find Vitamin B12 in meat (especially liver), fish, eggs and milk. It is extremely important for the optimal functioning of the nervous system and the brain, and it also keeps the blood cells functioning efficiently.
People, who have Vitamin 12 deficiency, can experience tiredness, depression and poor memory, to name just a few. It can be serious as it can cause impotence and infertility and much more severe diseases. As Vitamin B12 is mostly found in meat products, people who are vegans and vegetarians might not be consuming enough Vitamin B12. The good news however is that it can be taken as a supplement.
A great benefit of Vitamin B12 that has been talked about a lot is that it is an energy booster. If you have ever been on a diet, you know how sometimes your energy levels are low, because you are consuming fewer calories. Dieticians are recommending it to their patients who are on weight loss programs, for the mere reason that people who are on diets are more likely to suffer from malnutrition, as cut back on food. This is not to say conclusively that it helps with weight loss.
There are a lot of myths and information about vitamin B12, and what it can do for your weight loss. It has also been suggested that it reduces cravings. It is not clear if Vitamin B12 actually does these two things. It is clear that Vitamin B12 is something you want as part of your diet because of its many benefits. However, as for the weight loss enhancer, I have no proof that it can do that. Bottom line, whether it can help me with weight loss or not, it is definitely good for my body, and it is worth incorporating it into my diet.
